Nature Walk: Determined SalmonSalmon are amazing fish. They lay their eggs upstream. Then, when the baby salmon are born, they easily swim downstream to the ocean where they spend their life. When it is time to mate and lay eggs, salmon go back to the place they were born. This is a very hard journey. Swimming upstream means that salmon have to constantly fight the current of the water. Sometimes, they have to jump over water falls to keep going up. There are many predators along the way that try to catch and eat them. Salmon refuse to give up. Check out this awesome video of their life cycle. Salmon remind me of the Bible verse, Galatians 6:9, which says, "We must not become tired of doing good. We will receive our harvest of eternal life at the right time. We must not give up" (ICV)! If God can help those salmon never ever give up in their journey home, He can help us to not give up, too! Don't ever get tired of doing the right thing, even when it seems so hard. The Holy Spirit is always ready to help us obey. During the 3 years of no rain in Israel, prophet Elijah did not give up his hope in God. Water everywhere dried up, but he determined to trust God to take care of him, and God did. Bible Story: A Kind Widow Helps ElijahReference: 1 Kings 17 Prophet Elijah was hiding from King Ahab. When the water at the Brook Cherith dried up, God told prophet Elijah to go to Zarephath near Sidon. "There is a woman there who will take care of you." The woman's husband was dead, and she had one son. She was out picking up sticks to make a fire to cook her last meal when Elijah talked to her. "Would you bring me some water and bread, please?" prophet Elijah asked the woman. "I only have enough food to feed me and my son one more meal, and then we will die of hunger," she answered. Prophet Elijah said, "God will not let your flour and oil run out until He sends rain again. Only, please bring me something to eat first." The woman brought Elijah some bread and water. Then, she noticed that there was still flour and oil in her cupboard. God continued to give the woman oil and flour, and the woman continued to feed prophet Elijah. One day, the woman's son became so sick that he died. The woman said to prophet Elijah, "You are supposed to be a man of God. Has God let my son die to pay me back for my sins?" Prophet Elijah carried the boy up to his room and laid him on the bed. Then, Elijah stretched himself over the boy 3 times and prayed, "Lord, please bring this boy back to life!" One, two, three,...suddenly, the boy started breathing again! The woman hugged her son tightly. She turned to Elijah and said, "Now, I know that you really are a prophet of God, and that God speaks through you." Our prayer verse is Psalm 50:15, which says, "Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me." Elijah knew he could call upon God to help the woman's son. When you have trouble, do you pray and ask God for help? He wants to deliver us.
Dear Father God, Thank You for helping me in my troubles. I want to always remember to call upon You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Nature Walk: Murres
Murres (/MURZ/) are ocean birds that look like a cross between a penguin and a duck. To protect their eggs and baby chicks from enemies, they lay their eggs on the edge of rocky cliffs. Yikes! God gave their eggs the special shape of a pear with a super pointy top end, so they don't roll easily. God keeps us safe from danger, too. Psalm 27:5 says, "During danger,... He will keep me safe on a high mountain." Our Bible story is about God protecting prophet Elijah in the wilderness.

Mission Helper: Night Rescue
Mats was on vacation at lake in Sweden with his family. He was learning how to do wind surfing. Wind surfing is when you stand on a surfboard that has a sail mounted to it for the wind to push it along.
Mats got permission from Dad to go out further on the lake, but as the day went on, the wind pushed him further and further away from shore. He couldn't see Dad anymore. He became worried and prayed to God for help.
Night time came, and Mats was still on the water and unable to get to shore. He wondered if anyone would find him. A boat passed by, but it didn't stop for him. He continued praying to God. Suddenly, he heard a loud rushing sound overhead. It was a helicopter. Lights focused on him. A man descended a rope and grabbed Mats. Soon, they were both in the helicopter. The men covered Mats in a blanket and brought him to the hospital where his parents met him. Mats was OK. He was so thankful that God kept him safe out on the water and sent him help just in time. Do you pray when you are in trouble? God hears us, and He will send us help. Bible Story: God Cares for Elijah
Reference: 1 Kings 17
King Solomon later disobeyed God and caused the people to worship idols. God was so sad. He told Solomon that He would break up his kingdom. After Solomon died, God divided his kingdom into 2 nations - Israel in the north and Judah in the south.
King Ahab was one the kings of Israel. He and his wife Jezebel were very wicked. They worshiped idols and hurt God's prophets.
God sent prophet Elijah to give King Ahab a message. "Because of your wickedness, there will be no rain in Israel for 3 years," prophet Elijah told the king. King Ahab was angry. He wanted to hurt prophet Elijah, but God helped prophet Elijah hide.
God sent prophet Elijah to the brook Cherith. There Elijah drank water, and God sent the ravens to bring Elijah food every day.
Our prayer verse, Matthew 6:8, says, "Your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him." God took care of Elijah, and God will take care of you.
Dear Father God, Thank You for taking care of all my needs. I love you. In Jesus' name, Amen
